41 patients scheduled for volar plate fixation of a distal radius fracture were randomized to two different methods for postoperative analgesia. In one group, patients were administered a pre-incision injection of bupivacaine, and then an injection of liposomal bupivacaine at the end of the procedure. In the other group, patients were administered a pre-incision injection of bupivacaine only. Patients were assessed for pain, analgesic consumption, and adverse events over the first 5 days after surgery. The only significant difference in pain scores observed between groups was on the day of surgery; pain scores on postoperative days 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 did not significantly differ between groups.
