Similar 5-yr outcomes between needling plus lavage and steroid injection for calcific tendinitis
Am J Sports Med. 2017 Dec;45(14):3305-3314

48 patients with calcific tendinitis of the rotator cuff were randomized to an ultrasound-guided subacromial corticosteroid injection (SAIC) injection with or without additional ultrasound-guided barbotage. Patients were assessed for functional scores and rate of secondary intervention (barbotage or surgery) over 5-year follow-up. Results demonstrated a significantly lower rate of secondary intervention in the SAIC plus barbotage group compared to SAIC alone group, but no significant differences between groups in 5-year functional scores were observed in either intention-to-treat or per-protocol analyses.
