Arthroscopy. 2018 Jan;34(1):281-288

Four randomized controlled trials and one nonrandomized comparative study were included in this meta-analysis comparing platelet-rich plasma injection and control interventions (either placebo injection or physiotherapy) in treatment of grade I-II muscle strains. Outcomes of interest included time to return to sport and the incidence of reinjury. Pooled analysis of all studies demonstrated a significant, approximate 5.5 day reduction in time to return to sport with PRP injection versus control intervention. When subanalzyed by hamstring injuries only, significance was lost. Rate of reinjury also did not significantly differ between PRP and control interventions.
