AAOS2018: No difference in incidence of prosthetic joint infection between 3 bearing types in THA
17 studies were included in this meta-analysis comparing the rates of prosthetic joint infection (PJI) between metal-on-polyethylene articulation, ceramic-on-polyethylene articulation, or ceramic-on-ceramic articulation in total hip arthroplasty. Meta-analysis demonstrated no significant difference between the three bearing surfaces in the incidence of PJI.
