Oral acetaminophen demonstrates similar analgesic efficacy to IV acetaminophen in TKA and THA
Am J Health Syst Pharm. 2018 Mar 15;75(6):367-375515 patients scheduled for total knee or hip arthroplasty were randomized to either oral acetaminophen or intravenous acetaminophen as part of their postoperative analgesia regimen. The primary outcome was opioid use over the first 24 hours after surgery. The main secondary outcome was pain score on a numeric rating scale after 4 and 24 hours. Results demonstrated no significant differences between groups in either opioid use or NRS pain scores.
