112 patients scheduled for arthroscopic rotator cuff repair were randomized either to augmented surgery with a collagen scaffold between the greater tubercle footprint and the rotator cuff, or to nonaugmented repair. Patients were assessed over a 24-month follow-up for retear rate based on MRI results and functional scores. Results demonstrated a significantly lower incidence of retear among the collagen scaffold group, and better functional scores at 12 months. Functional scores at 24 months did not significantly differ between groups.
