Corset use following lumbar discectomy did not significantly affect 1- and 6-month clinical outcome

54 patients with single-level lumbar disc herniation and scheduled for discectomy were randomized to postoperative corset wear or no corset wear. The corset was to be worn for the first 4 weeks after surgery, and patients were followed up at 1 month and 6 months after surgery. Results demonstrated no significant differences between groups at either time point in pain on a visual analog scale, the Oswestry Disability Index, or Roland-Morris Disability Questionnaire.
