Eight randomized controlled trials were selected for inclusion in this meta-analysis which compared rates of thromboembolic complications between groups administered anticoagulants for chemoprophylaxis and control groups following knee arthroscopy. Subgroup analysis was performed for cases of nonmajor knee arthroscopy (ie. procedures without ligament reconstruction). The overall rate of deep vein thrombosis and symptomatic venous thromboembolism was lower in chemoprophylaxis groups compared to control groups. In nonmajor knee arthroscopy procedures, rates of deep vein thrombosis and symptomatic venous thromboembolism did not significantly differ between chemoprophylaxis groups and control groups.
