COA-ACO2018: Function at 6 weeks favoured with early vs. late weightbearing after ankle Frx fixation
Ten studies were included in this meta-analysis which compared functional outcome, complication rate, and revision rate after ankle fracture fixation between early weightbearing (within 2 weeks of surgery) and late weightbearing (4-6 weeks after surgery). Function significantly favoured EWB groups at 6 weeks, while no significant difference was observed between EWB and LWB groups when function was pooled at 1 year postoperatively. Incidences of complications and revision did not significantly differ between EWB and LWB groups.
