Negative pressure wound therapy not associated with reduction in deep SSI in open fracture treatment
JAMA. 2018 Jun 12;319(22):2280-2288460 patients with a Gustilo-Anderson type II-III open fracture of the lower limb were randomized to postoperative wound management with either negative pressure wound therapy or standard dressings. Patients were followed up for patient-reported disability and quality of life measures over 12 months, as well as incidences of infection and wound complications over 30 days. Results demonstrated no significant differences between groups in Disability Rating Index scores, ED-5D-3L scores, SF-12 scores, the incidence of deep surgical site infection, or incidences of other wound complications.
