Post-Achilles tendon repair elongation unaffected by weightbearing protocol used after surgery
Am J Sports Med. 2018 Aug;46(10):2492-2502. doi: 10.1177/036354651878182675 patients following acute Achilles tendon rupture repair were randomized to one of three postoperative weightbearing protocols: restricted weightbearing to 7 weeks and no ankle mobilization exercises (LWB+IMMOB), restricted weightbearing to 7 weeks with ankle mobilization exercises (LWB+MOB), or complete weightbearing by 5 weeks with ankle mobilization exercises (EWB+MOB). Primary outcome was tendon elongation over 52-week follow-up. Over follow-up, no significant differences between either the LWB+IMMOB group, LWB+MOB group, and EWB+MOB group were observed in tendon elongation.
