Direct anterior surgical approach superior to lateral approach for THA

100 patients with hip arthritis scheduled for total hip arthroplasty were randomized to the surgical exposure via direct anterior approach or a direct lateral approach. At a 2 year follow up, the direct anterior approach was found to be superior to the direct lateral approach, as it lead to significantly better performance outcomes and a quicker recovery.
