AAOS2019: TXA vs. EACA vs. control on pain and function in an ACL reconstruction

45 patients scheduled for anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction were randomized to receive tranexamic acid (TXA), epsilon aminocaproic acid (EACA) or no intervention. Outcomes of interest included pain on a visual analog scale, Lysholm score, knee range of motion, and degree of hemarthrosis. The results from this study found significantly favourable pain scores in the TXA group compared to the control group at 7 days. Furthermore, Lysholm scores were significantly favourable in the TXA group compared to both the EACA and control groups at 14 days. Otherwise, no significant differences were observed in the remaining outcomes.
