Significant effect of preoperative training on Romberg results ahead of and following TKA
Knee Surg Sports Traumatol Arthrosc. 2019 Apr;27(4):1057-1066. doi: 10.1007/s00167-018-5246-2

50 patients scheduled for total knee arthroplasty were randomized to either an 8-week supervised, preoperative exercise program of strength and balance training, or to usual care. Patients were assessed for postural control on the Romberg test prior to surgery after the completion of preoperative intervention, and at 1 and 3 months postoperatively. Overall, center-of-pressure area with eyes open and eyes closed was significantly lower in the preoperative training group when compared to the usual care group prior to surgery, and at 1 and 3 months after surgery.
