COA/ICORS2019: Adjuvant microfracture does not improve outcomes of arthroscopic rotator cuff repair
Patients scheduled for arthroscopic rotator cuff repair were randomized to either percutaneous microfracture of the supraspinatus footprint or needling of the peripheral tendon edges (control) at 5-7 days prior to repair. Patients were assessed for functional outcome and tendon healing over the first 24 months after surgery. Results demonstrated no significant differences between groups in Western Ontario Rotator Cuff Index, Constant, or American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) score, or the rate of re-tear over 24-month follow-up.
