Rehabilitation plus usual care reduces rate of re-injury vs. usual care alone post-ankle sprain
Arch Phys Med Rehabil. 2019 Jul;100(7):1367-1375.

7 studies were included in this meta-analysis comparing exercise-based rehabilitation plus usual care to usual care alone for the prevention of re-injury following acute ankle sprain. EMBASE, the Cochrane Library, and MEDLINE were searched from inception to January 2017. Results revealed no significant difference in the incidence of re-injury between the exercise-based rehabilitation plus usual care and usual care only groups at 3-6 months, while there was a significantly lower incidence of re-injury among exercise-based rehabilitation groups at 7-12 months.
