No difference between 4 vs 6 week antibiotic therapy following removal of infected hardware
J Antimicrob Chemother. 2019;74(8)2394-2399. doi: 10.1093/jac/dkz202The authors randomized 123 to treatment for four compared to six weeks of antibiotics. Median patient age was 64 years old, and all patients had undergone hardware removal (including arthroplasty and trauma implants) with no immediate re-implantation. Different antibiotic regimens were used, but overall there was no statistically significant difference between the two groups in terms of re-infection rate.
