OTA 2019: Change in infection rates over past four decades in patients with open tibia fractures
The development of medical interventions over the past forty years has led to new strategies for the prevention of infection in open tibia fractures. 165 studies (11,297 patients) were included in this systematic review investigating infection rates in patients with open tibia fractures. Overall, the rates of infection were similar between patient data from 1977-1987 (9.45%), 1988-1998 (13.12%), 1999-2009 (14.6%) and 2010-2018 (11.2%).
