111 patients with osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee, scheduled for Total Knee Replacement, were randomized to have an indwelling intra-articular drain or a subcutaneous drain, placed at the end of TKR procedure. The subcutaneous drain was found to have comparable outcomes to the intra-articular drain; hence, the subcutaneous indwelling closed-suction drainage could be used as a safe and functional alternative to intraarticular indwelling closed-suction drainage.
