7 randomized controlled trials were included in this meta-analysis comparing platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections and corticosteroid injections for the treatment of lateral epicondylitis, or tennis elbow. Outcomes of interest included pain on a Visual Analog Scale (VAS), the MAYO index and Disability of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand (DASH) scores. Results revealed significantly favourable pooled DASH scores in the corticosteroid group at 8 weeks post-treatment. Pooled VAS pain scores and DASH scores at 24 weeks post-treatment were significantly in favour of the PRP group compared to the corticosteroid group. No significant differences in pooled MAYO index scores were observed between the two groups at any time-point.
