Virtual exercise program significantly reduces healthcare costs following total knee arthroplasty
J Bone Joint Surg Am.2020;102(2):101-109.

Patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty require significant healthcare resources in terms of rehabilitation following their surgery. This therapy is key to success and the restoration of range of motion. This type of therapy usually takes place starting in the hospital, followed by home visits and outpatient therapy, along with transitional care for some patients as needed. In this study, patients were randomized to receive either standard care or a new virtual therapy modality (VERA) which they could use as often as they wanted. The authors found that patients in the VERA group had significantly lower healthcare costs at 12 weeks compared to standard care. Furthermore, there were no significant differences in important clinical outcomes between the groups.
