Sixty-seven patients with shoulder impingement syndrome were randomized to receive a modified cross-body posterior shoulder stretch, modified sleeper posterior shoulder stretch or no additional stretching alongside a standardized conservative treatment program. The outcomes of interest included pain at rest and during activity, internal rotation, external rotation, total rotation, posterior shoulder tightness, Constant-Murley (CMS) scores and Quick Disability of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand (QuickDASH) scores. Outcomes were assessed after completion the 4 week treatment program. Results revealed significantly favourable pain scores at rest, pain scores during activity, internal rotation, CMS scores and QuickDASH scores in both stretching groups compared to control. No significant differences in all outcomes were observed between the two stretching groups.
