Strategies for improvement and reduction in opioid prescription and opioid use for trauma patients
2018 Jun;49(6):1003-1007The ongoing opioid crisis continues to claim lives worldwide, but particularly so in North America. Orthopaedic surgeons prescribe more opioids than any other surgical specialty, and prescription patterns have come under greater scrutiny in recent years. The authors of this review performed a systematic review of opioid use among orthopaedic trauma patients. The authors identify a number of areas for improvement in opioid prescription and use in orthopaedic trauma.
