Diagnostics (Basel) . 2020 Mar 28;10(4):189.Five studies including 283 patients were included in this study comparing platelet-rich plasma injections and control (physiotherapy, saline injection, or dry needling) for the treatment of rotator cuff tendinopathy. The outcomes of interest included pain reduction and functional improvement, up to 24 weeks post-treatment. Pooled results revealed no significant differences in pain reduction or functional improvement at all time-points, with exception of pain reduction at 24 weeks which was significantly in favour of the platelet-rich plasma injection group. In the sub-group analysis by the type of control, no significant differences in all outcomes, at all time-points, were observed.
