Options for degenerative soft disc disease

In order to determine the effects of disc arthroplasty or fusion on the adjacent and asymptomatic spinal segments, 20 patients undergoing surgery for one-level cervical radiculopathy were randomized to undergo either arthroplasty or fusion (control), to compare the subsequent motion of the adjacent segments and to see if it relates to clinical outcomes. At a follow-up of one year, no significant difference in adjacent segmental motion was found between the two groups, nor was there a difference in pain relief.
