89 patients (>50 yr) with medial tibio-femoral osteoarthritis (OA) and varus mal-alignment were randomized to either undergo a 12-week hip strengthening exercise program or no exercise, to determine the effectiveness of the strengthening program on pain and function. However, the strengthening program did improve hip abductor strength with an associated reduction in OA related pain.
