Spinal fusion long-term results are similar with or without pedicle screw instrumentation

129 patients undergoing posterolateral lumbar spinal fusion were randomized to a procedure with or without pedicle screw instrumentation to compare the long-term outcomes of each method. Results from a 10 year follow-up indicated that both groups demonstrated significant improvements in all aspects of the Dallas Pain Questionnaire. Between group comparisons revealed no significant differences between instrumentation and non-instrumentation procedures.
