18 independent studies (n=1582 TKAs) were identified which compared minimally invasive and conventional exposure total knee arthroplasty (TKA) procedures. Analysis of the results indicated that the minimally invasive procedure cohort had a significantly smaller incision and a better knee flexion range of motion. All other clinical and radiological outcomes were comparable between these minimally invasive and conventional exposure procedures, calling in to question the proposed benefits of the minimally invasive procedure.
