Operative care provides reduced recurrence rates following primary patellar dislocation
Am J Sports Med. 2012 Jan;40(1):114-22. Epub 2011 Oct 1939 patients presenting with 41 traumatic patellar dislocations were randomized to either surgical repair of the medial patellofemoral ligament or non-operative treatment. The purpose of this study was to compare knee stability and functional outcomes between these treatment approaches. Statistical analysis following 2 years indicated that surgical repair provided significant improvements in pain and quality of life, and was accompanied by a significant reduction in recurrence rates of dislocation and subluxation.
