Ankle bracing prevents acute ankle injuries in high school football players

2081 high school football players were recruited from 50 different high schools to participate in this study, examining the effects of ankle bracing on acute ankle injuries over a 1 year time period. Participants were randomized to use lace up ankle bracing or no bracing for the 2010 football season. Results indicated a reduction in the incidence rate of ankle injuries in the bracing group (p<0.03). The severity of ankle injuries was the same in both groups.
