94 patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty (THA) were randomized to one of four groups. These groups consisted of one group receiving non cross-linked polyethaline (CLPE) liners and three groups receiving CLPE liners from different companies. This trial assessed the efficacy of the use of CLPE in THA, while comparing their results to traditional polyethaline (PE) liners. The results from this study indicated that the wear rates of all CLPE liners tested were significantly lower than that of traditional PE liners. There were no significant differences observed between the CLPE groups.
