80 patients of any age scheduled to undergo cemented hip or knee arthroplasty were randomized to the removal of drain at 6 or 24 hours after surgery. No difference in the hemoglobin drop, allogenic transfusion rates, length of hospital stay, complication rate or in rehabilitation process was seen between the groups. Only the wound healing appeared to be subjectively better in the 6-hour group for hip and knee replacement patients.
