Topical glycetyl trinitrate provides no clinical improvements for Achilles tendinopathy
Am J Sports Med. 2008 Jun;36(6):1160-3. Epub 2008 Mar 2140 patients presenting with non-insertional Achilles tendinopathy were randomized to receive standard physical therapy with or without topical glyceryl trinitrate (GTN) treatment. Follow-up at 6 months indicated both groups made significant improvements; however, there were no differences between groups for ankle osteoarthritis scale (AOS) scores. There were also no increases in collagen formation in the GTN group, contradictory to the study hypothesis.
