Warm up programme beneficial in prevention of injuries in female football players

2540 young female footballers (from 125 clubs) were randomized to either undergo a program of warm up exercises, with the goal of preventing injuries and enhancing performance through neuromuscular control and strengthening exercises, or to continue warming up as usual. The results over the span on one season indicated that there was no significant difference in the rate of lower extremity injuries; however, the warm up intervention resulted in a reduced risk of severe injuries, overuse injuries, and overall injuries.
