Platelet-rich plasma injections: a successful treatment for osteochrondral lesion symptoms

32 patients with osteochondral lesions of the talus, that were unresponsive to other non-operative treatment modalities, were randomized to injections with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) using a plasma rich in growth factors technique (PRGF) or hyaluronic acid (HA). Follow-up at 4, 14, and 28 weeks after the injection indicated that PRP is a safe and efficacious treatment for osteochondral lesions producing a number superior clinical and subjective results when compared to HA.
