Early Pain Relief After Posterior Total Hip Arthroplasty
J Bone Joint Surg Am. 2007 Jun;89(6):1153-60

60 patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty (THA) were randomized to compare minimally invasive and conventional THA. The authors hypothesized that a posterior mini-incision THA will yield better pain relief and functional recovery than the conventional long incision THA. the posterior mini-incision THA resulted in better pain control (p=0.002), earlier discharge from hospital (p=0.003), and better functional outcomes. However, the two groups showed equivalency in clinical results in later follow-ups.
