11 patients with acute knee injuries, occurring within 30 days of evaluation and presenting with an ACL tear, were randomized to receive an intraarticular injection with an IL-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1Ra) or saline. Authors hypothesized that injection with IL-1Ra would improve KOOS pain and functional scores over a 2 week follow-up period prior to operative reconstruction. Results indicated that the IL-1Ra group demonstrated a significant improvement from baseline measures over the 2 week period; whereas, the placebo group did not have a similar improvement.
