Early passive motion exercise does not improve ROM following rotator cuff repair

117 patients with small to medium full thickness rotator cuff tears were randomized to assess the affects of early passive mobilization on functional outcomes following repair. Patients received either an early passive motion protocol beginning at the first post operative day or a standard protocol that included brace immobilization for 4-5 weeks. Results at 6 months and one year indicated no differences in ROM, pain, functional scores or tendon healing between the two groups.
