Osteonecrosis of the hip: Autologous bone marrow mononuclear cell instillation
J Arthroplasty. 2012 May;27(5):679-86. Epub 2011 Oct 1340 patients (51 hips) diagnosed with stage I or II osteonecrosis were randomized to autologous bone marrow mononuclear cell instillation following core decompression or core decompression alone. Results at 12 months indicated superior Harris Hip scores for the intervention group; however, the difference was not maintained at 24 months. Survival rate was significantly greater in the intervention group following Kaplan-Meier analysis.
