Low-energy shock-wave therapy improves pain in Achillies tendinopathy
Am J Sports Med. 2009 Mar;37(3):463-70. Epub 2008 Dec 1568 patients with chronic recalcitrant non-insertional Achilles tendinopathy, who have undergone unsuccessful management for at least three months, were included in this study. Participants were randomized to receive eccentric exercise training with or without low-energy shock-wave therapy. At 4 month follow-up, both groups demonstrated significant improvements in pain. The group receiving the combination treatment demonstrated the greatest improvement in pain and had the greatest number of subjectively successful patients.
