48 patients scheduled to undergo total knee arthroplasty were randomized to receive either a retransfusion drain or no drain. The results from peri-operative follow-up indicated that there were no significant differences between the two groups in regards to fall in hemoglobin, blood transfusion rate, and complication rates. In addition, the timing of the tourniquet release did not affect the results from the study.
