Reduced blood loss during TKA with drain clamping and injection of saline with adrenaline
J Bone Joint Surg Br. 2006 Jan;88(1):49-53212 patients were randomized to undergo total knee arthroplasty (TKA) with either a procedure involving clamping of the drains after intra-articular injection of saline with adrenaline or post-operative blood salvage and re-infusion. The primary outcome was blood loss after TKA. Results indicated that the drain clamping with saline and adrenaline injection was more effective in reducing blood loss compared to post-operative autologous blood transfusion.
