Acromioplasty does not provide additional benefits for subacromial impingement
J Bone Joint Surg Br. 2009 Apr;91(4):504-1057 patients with subacromial impingement syndrome were randomized to receive treatment with a bursectomy alone or bursa debridement with acromioplasty. The results from this study indicated that both procedures provided improvements in pain and function from baseline levels to a mean follow up of 2.5 years, but there were no differences when comparing the two groups. These findings indicated that acromioplasty was unnecessary for the treatment of subacromial impingement syndrome.
