40 patients with neck pain or radicular symptoms in the upper extremity undergoing anterior cervical discectomy were randomised to undergo the procedure with carbon fiber cage alone or allograft with plating (using the Smith-Robinson technique). The primary outcomes were based on clinical and radiographic evaluation. The results indicated comparable and positive outcomes with both the carbon fiber cage procedure and the allograft and plating procedure.
