Infiltration of bupivacaine at surgical portals for knee arthroscopy

137 patients undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery were randomized to receive either analgesia with an intra-articular injection of bupivacaine or infiltration with bupivacaine around the portals. This study assessed the efficacy of infiltration of bupivacaine and compared it to the more common method of intra-articular injection. The results indicate that the two procedures were clinically equivalent.
