Accelerated load-bearing results in improved function following chondrocyte implantation
Osteoarthritis Cartilage. 2008 Oct;16(10):1131-40. Epub 2008 Apr 2262 patients that had undergone matrix-induced autologous chondrocyte implantation (MACI) were randomized to either a traditional or accelerated load-bearing rehabilitation. The results at 3 months indicated that patients in the accelerated rehabilitation group had an improved ability to walk long distances, increased activity levels, required less time ambulating with crutches, had an accelerated return to weight-bearing, and demonstrated improved pain and function. Additionally, the accelerated program did not result in any graft complications
