Knee OA: Bracing combined with standard care increases walking distances
Osteoarthritis Cartilage. 2006 Aug;14(8):777-83. Epub 2006 Mar 24117 patients with unicompartmental osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee were randomized in a study to receive conservative treatment and a knee brace (OAsys brace, Innovation Sports, Irvine, CA, USA) or conservative treatment alone. At 12 months, the difference between the two groups for pain severity, knee functioning and quality of life was not statistically significant. The patients who received the knee brace, however, reported significantly longer walking distances than the control group at all follow up time periods.
