Celecoxib and aceclofenac reduce COX-2 and mPEGS-1 expression in osteoarthritic patients

30 patients with osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee, scheduled to undergo total knee replacement surgery, were randomized to either receive treatment with either Celecoxib or Aceclofenac (NSAIDs). Patients who did not want to be treated served as a non-randomized comparison group. The results indicated that both Celecoxib and Aceclofenac (NSAIDs) were effective in reducing gene expression for COX-2, mPGES-1 synthesis in cultured human chondrocytes from patients with knee osteoarthritis.
