50 patients (>15 yr old) with a tibial shaft fracture, requiring intramedullary nailing, were randomized to be treated with either paratendinous or transtendinous approach. At 8 year follow-up, there were no differences in the anterior knee pain and functional performance between the paratendinous and transtendinous nailing techniques.
