Six month interruption does not cause loss of arthroscopic meniscal repair skills
J Bone Joint Surg Am. 2012 Sep 5;94(17):e1321-8.

19 orthopaedic residents with experience in routine knee arthroscopy, but none in arthroscopic meniscal repair, performed 12 meniscal repairs on a knee simulator over a 3 week period in order to gain experience. The residents were then randomized to perform either one meniscal repair every month, one meniscal repair every 3 months, or no meniscal repairs over the course of the study. 6 months after randomization, the orthopaedic residents performed another 12 meniscal repairs over a 3 week period. All residents displayed significant improvement in their meniscal repair skills over the initial 12 week learning period (p<0.0001). Also, the group that did not perform any meniscal repairs did not lose any skills despite the 6 month break (p>0.05).
